“I was raised by a single mother, and both my brother and I are in college. Last year I had federal work study but they cut it this year. That’s made it a lot more difficult for my family to pay for college, but we’re managing somehow.”

What’s the latest on student aid?

Over the past five years, Congress cut funding for student aid by over $30 billion. In 2015, we were up against a budget that proposed aggressive cuts to funding for federal student aid programs like Pell Grants, GEAR UP, and TRIO. However, with your help, we prevented Congress from balancing the budget on the backs of students. As a result of your hard work asking Congress to #SaveStudentAid:

  • GEAR UP funding increased by $21million
  • TRIO funding increased by $60 million
  • Pell Grants remained fully funded

As Congress considers the new federal budget, the fight will continue. Join in by following @StuAidAlliance to learn how you can help #SaveStudentAid.
